Academician Fu Zhengyi Elected President of the International Ceramic Federation; China Wins Bid to Host ICC 2032

The 11th International Congress on Ceramics (ICC-11) was held in Sapporo, Japan, from September 6 to 11. During the congress, the International Ceramic Federation (ICF) convened an Executive Committee meeting, at which Fu Zhengyi, Vice President of the Chinese Ceramic Society, Professor at Wuhan University of Technology and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, was elected President of the International Ceramic Federation for the term 2026-2028. Following Academician Nan Cewen, who served as President of the Federation from 2012 to 2014, he is the second Chinese scientist to hold the highest leadership position of this international organization, demonstrating the academic influence and voice of the Chinese Ceramic Society in the international field of ceramic science and technology, and reflecting China’s important position in international science and technology governance.

By a vote of the ICF Executive Committee, the Chinese Ceramic Society successfully won the bid to host the 14th International Congress on Ceramics in 2032. The International Congress on Ceramics is a major academic conference in the field of ceramic science and technology, held every two years. Returning to China after 18 years, it will provide a high-level platform for international exchange and cooperation for China’s ceramic science and technology community, and will play a positive role in promoting academic exchange and collaborative innovation in the field.

At the opening ceremony of the International Congress on Ceramics, the ICF held an award ceremony for the “International Day of Ceramics (IDoC)” celebrations, and the Chinese Ceramic Society was recognized as one of the three best organizers of celebrations worldwide. Starting this year, the ICF designates March 12 as the “International Day of Ceramics” each year, with member countries organizing celebrations around this theme. On March 12, Wuhan University of Technology hosted the first “International Day of Ceramics” series of events in China under the theme “A Thousand Years of Kiln Fire, Materials Shaping a New Life”.

These achievements are a concentrated reflection of the Society’s long-term efforts in actively carrying out international scientific and technological exchanges, supporting Chinese scientists in serving in international scientific and technological organizations, and building high-level platforms for scientific, technological and cultural exchange. The Society will further expand bilateral and multilateral exchange channels, enhance openness, trust and cooperation with key countries and international scientific and technological organizations, and provide new opportunities for deepening international cooperation in China’s ceramic science and technology field.

Background: The International Ceramic Federation (ICF) was founded in 1989 and is the most authoritative and influential international academic organization in the global ceramics field, with members covering about 40 countries and regions, including the Chinese Ceramic Society, the American Ceramic Society, the European Ceramic Society and the Ceramic Society of Japan. Since 2006, the ICF has held the International Congress on Ceramics (ICC) every two years, and from 2026 it designates March 12 as the “International Day of Ceramics”.
